Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems
Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS) are designed to detect unauthorized entry into a defined area or property perimeter. These systems use various technologies to monitor and secure the outer boundaries of a site. Here are some common types of PIDS products along with brief explanations:
- Fence-Mounted Sensors: There are commonly three types of Audio Microphonic Vibration Sensors that detect vibrations caused by attempts to climb, cut, or otherwise disturb the fence, Taut Wire Sensors: Taut wire sensors are mounted along the fence and trigger an alarm when the tension in the wire changes, and Active Infrared Beams or Microwave sensors create a detection zone along the fence line and trigger an alarm when disturbances in the microwave field are detected.
- Buried Motion Sensors: These sensors are installed underground along the perimeter and detect motion or disturbances on the surface above, such as footsteps or vehicle movements.
- Radar & Laser detectors: These detectors can monitor large perimeters and detect intruders based on their movement patterns and consist of a transmitter and receiver unit placed opposite each other. They are effective in wide-open areas.
